Missing Cruise Ship Passenger
MSC Divina - June 18, 2014
Jorge Alberto López Amores, 26, was sailing aboard the MSC Cruises' MSC Divina when he jumped from the 15th deck while the cruise ship was off the coast of Brazil, around 1700 hours on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Jorge Alberto López Amores, the son of Chiapas attorney, Raciel Lopez Salazar, lived in Mexico City and studied at the Universidad del Valle de Mexico.

Jorge served as Coordinator of Social Networks in the Central Trust of Abasto. Central Trust of Abasto is Mexico City’s main wholesale market located on over 800 acres in the city with over 2,000 vendors selling the full range of food products.

Amores was a favorite on Twitter, @Jorge_Amores, with 26,700 followers who followed his 27,500 tweets since he joined Twitter in January 2010. He had uploaded more than 1,000 photos and videos to Twitter, including numerous photos and videos from this cruise.

López Amores was one of the Mexican fans who won the "1000 + Mexicans Brazil" competition, organized by Grupo Modelo. Grupo Modelo better known around the world for their Corona label beer, ran the contest from which Amores won his cruise ticket.

A journalist aboard the MSC Divina World Cup fan cruise reported Amores had been drinking heavily since the day before he jumped from the cruise ship during the World Cup game between Spain and Chile. He reported that the drinks were not bought on the ship. Instead, Amores brought aboard Mezcal, which he consumed from a canteen he had. Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage produced in Mexico and is made from the maguey plant, usually produced as 100% agave. Mezcal can reach an alcohol content of 55%.

Also on the cruise with Amores was former President of Mexico Felipe Calderon Hinojosa.

This is the second case we know of, where a passenger who had received the cruise from a contest went overboard.

This case will likely be moved to Cruise Ship Deaths and updated there when more information is available.
